June 2010

Sunday June 6th
Burnt River United Church 122nd Anniversary. Service begins at 11 a.m. with George Bradbury speaking, followed by a pot luck lunch on the lawn, weather permitting. The choir prepares a singing number for this. All are invited to come and share in the celebration.
Burnt River UCW have their annual quilt on frames at the church hall to be hand quilted. Any quilters are welcome. Call June at 454-1653.

Saturday June 12th
Story time and craft at Burnt River Library at 10:30 a.m.

Wednesday June 23rd
Diners’ Dinner at Burnt River Centre will start at noon. No dinners during July and August. They will resume in September.

Friday, June 25th
Games Day
at Burnt River Centre from 1 to 4 p.m. Come out for the afternoon and enjoy a variety of card and word games or bring your own. Mark your calendars now.

Saturday June 26th
Burnt River United Church hosts its annual Strawberry Supper, smorgasbord style, with both hot and cold entrees, and lots and lots of strawberries for dessert! Starting at 3:30 p.m. through 6:30 p.m. at the Centre. Adults $13.50 Children 6-12 $3.50 Kindergarten and preschoolers free.

Burnt River Firefighters
Burnt River P.A.C.T. met in May at Burnt River Community Centre. A few local topics were discussed and the next meeting date was established. The next P.A.C.T. meeting will be held at Burnt River Community Centre Wednesday August 18 - 2010 at 1:00 p.m. Any one can attend to find out what is happening in our community. Coming July 03 - 2010, Burnt River Firefighter's Association Annual Car Wash and Tailgate Sale. Time: 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Hot dog and pop $2.00 each. Car wash $5.00 donation. Information booths, Sparky and Sparky's Car will be at the Car Wash. Spot for your sale items available at $10.00 per spot. Come out and support your local firefighter.

Red Cross Swimming Lessons, Summer 2009
Operated by the City of Kawartha Lakes, the lessons will take place at the boat launch at the end of Hillside Drive. The Four Mile Lake session is available July 5th -16th July 19th – 30th Aug. 9th – 20th 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Lessons cost $25.00 per week (Mon. to Fri.) per child with the 4th wk/child free. Registration starts June 1st by:

Mystery Quilt 2010
Burnt River Arts & Crafts are offering a Mystery Quilt project starting
September 28,2010 at the Burnt River-Somerville Centre.
Skills to be perfected are foundation paper piecing, machine appliqué (satin stitch), trapunto- 60 degree angle piecing making and working with templates
Fabric Kit must be ready for the first class.
