Burnt River Community Centre Update
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Have you ever considered becoming more involved and contributing to your community? Then, the Board of Management of the Burnt River Community Centre NEEDS YOU! This is a volunteer Board consisting of nine positions appointed by Council on a rotating basis for a three year term. Applications for all volunteer positions/boards in the City are advertised soon in the local press and new appointments will be confirmed by Council. Currently, there are vacancies on our local BRCC Board and do consider this an opportunity to serve your community. It would certainly be beneficial if the Board Membership was representative of ALL COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS who use the Centre. If interested in serving or for more information, please call the chair of the Management Board, Erin Handley at 454 8627.

AUGUST 2009

Burnt River Community Centre Update

You will be pleased when you next visit the Centre to see that the capital upgrading project at the front entrance has been completed. The new gabled roof was designed to better and more safely handle the snow fall-off from the main roof during our wonderful winters. All exposed metal on the existing under-structure has been steel cladded in white to eliminate on-going maintenance/painting concerns. Another capital upgrade being completed in 2009 is the replacement of the existing “very tired” old furnace with a new hopefully more energy efficient unit. On behalf of everyone in the community, the Volunteer Management Board of the BRCC sincerely thanks the City of the Kawartha Lakes and our local councilor, David Hodgson, for addressing and approving these significant capital upgrades in their 2009 Budget..
